Seven Steps to Time Management
“How can I improve my time management skills?” This is a common question that I get from many of my clients. Usually they have not set any goals or milestones and are simply trying to figure out how to make their time more efficient. In this article I am going to show you a simple step by step process to shorten your time management skills and get more done in less time.
First, what is the answer to my client’s question? The answer is: listening
Listening to audio material (such as audio recordings of me giving speeches or audio presentations), reading books that help you focus on what you are doing, or reading blogs that have good information are all good ways to make sure that you are truly listening. When you are listening to or reading from a book or blog, you are paying attention to the words and how they are being said rather than just absorbing the entire text. This is one of the best methods for improving your listening skill and making sure that you do not have un-noticeable distractions that will take away from the time you spend listening.
Second, when it comes to time management skills, another great step you can take is to make sure that you schedule an appointment with yourself at least once a week
This will ensure that you stay on task and that you always have time to do the things that you need to get done. Setting aside time for self enrichment is essential for anyone who is working towards becoming more efficient with his or her time. Most people do not set aside the time necessary to read motivational books or take a short self improvement course. If you are like most people, these steps listed above will not help you out very much.
Third, if you cannot schedule yourself to have an appointment with yourself, try setting appointments when you have some free time
You may think that this is too convenient but the truth is that this is a proven time management technique that has worked for many people. Think about it, would you not benefit from someone else’s guidance in time management? When you see yourself doing something that you know will consume your time, you will want to take time to read up on it or watch a video related to it. If you do not have the luxury of time, you will still be able to take advantage of this helpful step in time management.
Fourth, you need to start making time for yourself
This is another great step in time management. There are people who say that time is money but it does not really seem that way to those of us who work hard to earn our income. It seems that the more you work, the less you enjoy your work and the more money you get. But there is something that can change that, time management!
Fifth, you need to get out and have some fun!
This one is simple, but it is crucial. You do not have to go to the movie star to get away from all of the stress of life. You have your own television set at home so why not make the most of it. Schedule some time for yourself and make sure that you get enough sleep so that your body has the energy it needs to be productive the next day.
Sixth, learn a little about time management
This is a great way to benefit from this very important step. You may not even know what time management is. When you get the chance to learn about this important step in time management, take advantage of it!
Seventh, when you have the information that you need, write it down
Sometimes when you sit down for your information that you need, you find that you are not in the mood to write. So write down everything that you need to get done. Then when you feel like sitting down and drinking some more coffee, you will remember what you were supposed to be writing and you will get the information that you needed from your notes and from the worthless information that you recorded in your head.
